1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains what information Scanify ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, why we collect it, and how it is used. By using Scanify you agree to the practices described here.
Scanify is published by an independent developer. If you have any questions, contact us at support@scanify.app.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data stored entirely on your device
- Scanned document images — photos captured by your camera, saved as files in the app's private folder on your device.
- Document metadata — titles, creation dates, tags, folder assignments, and starred status, stored in a local database (Hive).
- OCR (extracted) text — text recognized from your scanned pages using on-device processing. This text never leaves your device unless you explicitly share or export it.
- Generated PDF files — PDFs you create from scans, stored locally.
- App preferences — language, theme, notification settings, and feature flags, stored using Android/iOS shared preferences.
- Biometric lock status — whether app lock is enabled (yes/no). No biometric data (fingerprint templates, face maps) is ever stored or accessed by Scanify; authentication is handled entirely by your device OS.
- Pro/purchase status — whether you have purchased Scanify Pro, stored locally. Your payment details are managed by Google Play and never seen by us.
2.2 Data sent to Google (only when you sign in — optional)
- Google account email address — used solely to identify your Google Drive backup folder. We do not store this on our servers.
- OAuth authentication token — a temporary token used to access your Google Drive. It is stored on your device and used only to read/write backup files.
- Google Drive backup files — a ZIP file containing your documents and images, written to your Drive's app data folder (a private folder only Scanify can access — it is not visible in your Drive file list). This upload happens only when you manually trigger a backup, or when automatic backup is enabled (Pro feature).
2.3 Data we do NOT collect
- No usage analytics or telemetry
- No crash reports sent to third-party services
- No advertising identifiers (the
AD_IDpermission is declared in the manifest for compatibility with Google Play Services libraries, but we do not read or transmit this identifier) - No location data
- No contacts
- No microphone audio

6. Data Storage & Security
All your documents, images, and text are stored in the app's private storage on your device. This storage is not accessible to other apps and is deleted when you uninstall Scanify.
When you use the Google Drive backup feature, your files are stored in a private app-data folder on your Google Drive that is not visible in your Drive file browser and cannot be accessed by other apps or other users.
We do not operate our own servers. We do not store any of your data on servers we control.
The Encrypted Vault feature uses your device's biometric lock to restrict access to sensitive documents. The encryption is handled by your device's operating system.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
Local data: Your documents and settings are kept on your device until you delete them in the app or uninstall Scanify. You can delete individual documents, folders, or all data from within the app.
Google Drive backups: You can delete your backup files at any time by going to Settings → Backup → Delete backup, or by visiting drive.google.com → Storage → Backups. You can also revoke Scanify's access to your Drive at any time via your Google Account permissions page.
8. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or California, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion Request deletion of your personal data. For local data, simply delete it in the app or uninstall Scanify. For Drive data, delete backups and revoke access as described above.
- Portability Export your documents and data from within the app (Settings → Export).
- Objection You can disconnect your Google account at any time from Settings → Backup → Disconnect Google Account.
Because we do not operate servers or collect personal data ourselves (all data lives on your device or in your own Google account), most requests can be fulfilled by you directly within the app. For any questions, contact us at support@scanify.app.
9. Children's Privacy
Scanify is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of Scanify after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
